About the Cupra Born

Charging the Cupra Born

The Cupra Born comes with a 10A Type 2 home charger that plugs into a standard wall socket — this takes around 37 hours to charge from empty to full. Fully charged, the Born gets an impressive 548km of range.

To charge faster at home we recommend investing in a wallbox smart EV charger. The Born can charge at up to 11kW if you have three-phase at home — but most homes only have single phase, so we recommend the 7kW wall charger, which is around four times faster than the charger that comes with the vehicle.

What cable do I need for public AC charging?

The Born is capable of charging at 11kW with 3 phase charging, so we recommend a three-phase 22kW Type 2 to Type 2 cable in 5m to make use of these chargers — it works on single-phase chargers too. The majority of free public chargers use a Type 2 socket, so this cable lets you use them. Some public chargers have a Type 2 cable hard-wired, so a cable isn’t needed 100% of the time.

For most homes, a 7kW (32A) single-phase wall charger — around four times faster than the charger that comes with the vehicle, charging from 20–100% in ~9 hours. If your home has three-phase power, the Tron 22kW charger unlocks the Born’s full 11kW AC rate (~7 hours).

No. The Born charges happily at ~7kW on a standard single-phase connection, which is what most NZ homes have. Three-phase is optional and simply unlocks the faster 11kW AC rate.

An impressive 548km from its 82kWh battery. Real-world range varies with driving style, terrain and conditions.

Yes — but a full charge takes around 37 hours from empty, so it’s best treated as a backup rather than your main charging method. A 7kW wall charger is strongly recommended for daily use.

A three-phase 22kW-rated Type 2 to Type 2 cable in 5m — this makes use of the Born’s 11kW AC rate at public chargers, and works on single-phase chargers too.

Via CCS2, a 170kW charger takes the Born from 5% to 80% in around 30 minutes; a 50kW charger does the same in around 70 minutes.
