Depending on the year the outlander was fitted with three different size battery packs.
12kWh 2016-2018
13kWh 2019-2020
20kW 2021+

The newest generation gives around 80km of all EV range, this is enough to suit the average trip for a New Zealander.

Most of the older Japanese imported outlanders use a Type 1 cable. The 2022+ Outlander uses a Type 2.  Have a quick look at our plug guide if you are not sure what you need as Mitsubishi did sell some New Zealand new Outlanders with a Type 1 socket so check the socket images below to confirm if your car uses Type 1 or Type 2.

Public charging the Outlander PHEV

There two types of public chargers for your PHEV.

The CHAdeMO fast Charger. This is a DC charger and will charge your car from 0 to 80% in 20-25min. No need to bring a cable as the charging station has this hard wired. Some early 2013 Models don’t have this charge port.

Type 2 Public charger These are A.C chargers commonly found in malls, car park buildings, hotels and motels. Some of these Type 2 AC chargers have cables attached and some you will need to bring your own cable. You can check Plugshare to see if there is a cable attached or if the charger is BYO cable.

Charging the Mitsubishi PHEV from a public Type 2 charger.

If you car is a Japanese import or NZ new you will need a Type 2 to Type 1 charge cables to make use of these chargers.
For New Zealand new the majority of these use a Type 2 to Type 2 Cables.
