DC fast chargers NZ

DC chargers send power directly into the vehicle battery, bypassing the car’s onboard AC charger entirely. That onboard unit is the bottleneck in AC charging — most EVs cap at 7kW or 11kW no matter how much the charge point can supply. Going DC removes that ceiling, which is why a 30kW DC unit delivers several times the charge rate of a 22kW AC one on the same car.

They suit destination sites where dwell time is short and turnover matters: service stations, retail carparks, dealerships, transport depots and fleet yards. At 20–40kW they hit the practical sweet spot for destination charging — fast enough to add real range over a 30–60 minute stop, without the grid connection cost of a 150kW-plus highway charger. Higher-output units suit sites where throughput justifies the heavier grid connection.

Dual output units serve both CCS2 and CHAdeMO and can charge both NZ new vehicles and Japanese imports.
