EV chargers for the new Polestar 2

From factory the Polestar comes with a Type 2 10A charger that plugs in to a standard wall socket. This will take around 27 hours to charge from 20% to full. On a full charge you will get around 539km of range.

For the Polestar as they have built in timers for the charging, we recommend using the basic 32A Wall mounted charger that will charge a 32a 7.4kW (4x the speed of the standard charger.

Polestar 2 Charge times

Estimate charge timing comparison from 20% to 100%. After 80% charging can slow depending on the temperature of the batteries, also as the battery gets full the car balances the cells so charging will slow as it approaches 100%

Public charging the Polestar

There two types of public chargers the Polestar

The CCS charger. This is a DC charger and will charge your car from 0 to 80% in 20min. No need to bring a cable as the charging station has this hard wired. To use these public stations, download the Chargenet App

Type 2 Public charger such as the Free Orion chargers or the ones you find a super markets, malls, hotels. You will need to bring your own cable for these. Plug share will show the chargers in your area and you can see what sort of cables are needed.

What sort of cable do I need for public charging?

The Polestar 2 is capable of charging at 11kW limited by its onboard charger. We recommend a 3 phase Type 2 to Type 2 charge cable to make use of these chargers.

The majority of free public chargers use the Type 2 Socket, so this converter cable will allow you to use the chargers. Note Some public charges have a Type 2 hard wired so a cable is not needed 100% of the time.

Home Chargers

If you have 3 phase at home then the Tron 3 phase charger will charge the Polestar at 11kW. This is as fast as the polestar can charge at home.
Most homes only have single phase so the 7kW single phase wall chargers suit all homes. They feature scheduled charging, Solar Charging and home load balancing to avoid overloading the mains.
