Kia Niro EV & PHEV Charging Guide kia nero charging

Charging options for the new Kia Niro EV.

From factory the Niro comes with a Type 2 10A charger that will charge at 8 amps. This can take around 7 hours to provide a full charge for the PHEV or 23 hours for the full EV. On a full charge you can expect around 63km range for the PHEV and 460km range for the EV. There are a couple of options for charging the Niro faster at home. The Niro comes with the Kia connect app so there is no need for a smart charger as the scheduling can be done via the app.

  1. The 16A T2 charger with the Blue Cee plug. Great if you have a 16A socket. If you don’t have one get a quote from your local electrician to have one installed however the install costs are similar to having a wall charger installed so that is the better option.
  2. The other faster option are the wall mount chargers that can be mounted outside such as the  32A Wall mounted charger

Note: The PHEV is limited to charging at 16A so the wall chargers will only supply 16A to the car.

Niro EV and PHEV charge times

Estimate charge timing comparison from 20% to 80%. After 80% charging can slow depending on the temperature of the batteries, also as the battery gets full the car balances the cells so charging will slow as it approaches 100%

Chargers

We recommend our Smart EV wall charger with wifi. Due to its value for money, the ability to adjust the charge based on how much solar is being generated and its load balancing capabilities to avoid tripping the breaker at the mains.
If you have 3 phase available at home the Tron will charge the nero full EV at 11kW.
