BYD Seal Charging Guide

BYD seal charging

Charging the Seal

The seal comes with a 8A Type 2 home charger that plugs in to a standard wall socket, BYD refer to this as an emergency charger as it will take around 36 hours to charge the 61kW version from empty to full. When fully charged you can expect a range of around 460km for the dynamic model and 570km for the premium and performance models. The seal also supports Vehicle to load and comes with the adapter from the factory.

To charge faster at home we would recommend investing in a Wall mounted Smart EV charger. All models of the Seal support 7kW ac charging.

BYD Seal charge times

Estimate charge timing comparison from 20% to 100%. Generally you do not arrive home with 0% charge remaining.
The last 5% slows down as the cells are balanced.

Charger type Battery & Model Approximate Charge time 20% to 100%
8A factory charger 61kWh Dynamic 29.5 Hours
16A Charger 61kWh Dynamic 14.5 Hours
32a Wall charger with Socket 61kWh Dynamic 7.5 Hours
32a Wall charger with 5m cable 61kWh Dynamic 7.5 Hours
8A factory charger 83kWh Premium & Performance 40 Hours
16A Charger 83kWh Premium & Performance 20 Hours
32a Wall charger with Socket 83kWh Premium & Performance 10 Hours
32a Wall charger with 5m cable 83kWh Premium & Performance 10 Hours

Public charging with the Seal

There two types of public chargers.

The CCS charger. This is a DC fast charger, these chargers have the cables attached so there is no need to bring your own.
To use these public stations download the Chargenet App Meridian App and Shell App

The Premium and Performance models both support 150kW DC charging where as the Dynamic model supports 110kW maximum DC charge speed.

While BYD do not list the charge times using DC charging a close estimate would be
Dynamic Model 40min to charge 5-80% @ 110kW
Premium and Performance 30min 5-80% @150kW

Type 2 Public chargers like the ones you find a super markets, malls, hotels & Motels. You will need to bring your own cable for these. Plug share will show the chargers in your area and you can see what sort of cables are needed.

What sort of cable do I need for Public charging

We recommend a 7kW Type 2 to Type 2 cable to make use of the faster charging speeds.
The majority of free public chargers use the Type 2 Socket, so this cable will allow you to use the chargers and is backwards compatible with 22kW and 11kW chargers.
Note Some public charges have a Type 2 hard wired so a cable is not needed 100% of the time.
