VIOFO 512GB Industrial Grade microSD Card – Maximum Capacity for Heavy-Duty Dash Cam Use
Standard consumer microSD cards weren’t designed for the relentless write cycles of a dash cam recording 24/7. Cheap cards are by far the most common cause of “memory error”, missing footage and unexplained recording dropouts. The VIOFO 512GB Industrial Grade microSD card is purpose-built to handle continuous loop recording, parking-mode surveillance and high-bitrate 4K capture — so the footage is actually there when you need it. At 512 GB, it’s the top of the VIOFO range and the right choice for 3-channel dash cams, fleet vehicles, rideshare drivers and anyone running 4K at the highest bitrate who wants days of rolling coverage rather than hours.
Why an industrial-grade card matters
- High-endurance NAND — engineered for write-intensive applications like dash cams, body cams and surveillance systems.
- U3 / A2 / V30 rated — sustained write performance for 4K, Ultra HD and high-bitrate recording without dropped frames.
- Read speeds up to 100 MB/s, write speeds up to 80 MB/s — fast offload of clips to your phone or PC, which matters more on a 512 GB card where individual file pulls can be large.
- Optimised for VIOFO dash cams — full compatibility with the A329S, A229 Pro, A229 Plus, A229 Ultra, A329T, A119M Pro, VS1, A119 Mini 2 and the rest of the VIOFO range that supports 512 GB cards.
- Operating range -25°C to +85°C — designed for the hot dashboard in summer and a frosty Canterbury morning in winter.
- Waterproof, X-ray proof, anti-magnetic, shock-resistant — survives the conditions a card in a vehicle actually faces.
- SD adapter included — drop it into any standard SD card reader to pull footage off on your laptop.
How much footage will 512 GB hold?
Recording time depends on resolution and bitrate. Approximate continuous recording times on a 512 GB card with common VIOFO models:
| Dash Cam Model | Resolution | Approx. recording time (512 GB) |
|---|---|---|
| A119M Pro | 4K 30fps (High) | ~28 h 46 min |
| A119 Mini 2 / VS1 | 2K 30fps | ~34 h 40 min |
| A229 Plus 2CH | 2K + 2K (High) | ~22 h 24 min |
| A229 Pro 2CH | 4K + 2K (High) | ~18 h 40 min |
| A229 Pro 3CH | 4K + 2K + 1080p (High) | ~14 h 56 min |
| A329S 2CH | 4K 60fps + 2K (High) | ~13 h 52 min |
| A329S 3CH | 4K + 2K + 2K (High) | ~10 h 40 min |
Once the card is full your VIOFO dashcam loops over the oldest footage automatically, so this is rolling coverage — not total storage before it stops recording. Locked event files (impacts, manual saves) are preserved separately.
Is 512 GB the right capacity for me?
512 GB is the largest microSD card VIOFO supports, and it’s overkill for many drivers. It’s the right choice when:
- You run a 3-channel dash cam (front + rear + cabin, or front + rear + telephoto) where three video streams chew through storage fast.
- You drive a fleet, commercial or rideshare vehicle and need to be able to retrieve footage from incidents that may have happened a day or two earlier.
- You use parking mode 24/7 on a hardwired install and want days — not hours — of overnight surveillance before the loop overwrites.
- You record everything at 4K maximum bitrate and don’t want to compromise quality for storage.
- Your dashcam explicitly supports 512 GB (check the manual — older VIOFO models cap at 256 GB).
If none of the above apply, a 128 GB or 256 GB card will give you all the rolling coverage you realistically need at a lower price point.
Compatibility note
512 GB microSDXC cards are supported by most current VIOFO models including the A329S series, A329T, A229 Ultra, A229 Pro, A229 Plus, A119M Pro and VS1. Some older or lower-tier VIOFO cameras max out at 256 GB — please check your dashcam’s user manual or product page before ordering. If you’re not sure, get in touch and we’ll confirm compatibility for your model.

Format it on first use
Whichever microSD card you use, we strongly recommend formatting it inside the dashcam (Settings → Format SD Card) on first install, and reformatting every 4–6 weeks. This keeps the file system clean and prevents the “memory error” or “memory full” warnings that plague cards left to fill up indefinitely.
