The VIOFO A229 Ultra 3CH is VIOFO’s most complete three-channel dash cam in the Ultra series — combining a 4K front camera, a 4K rear camera, and a 1080P infrared fisheye cabin camera. All three channels feature Sony STARVIS 2 sensors for exceptional image quality, with infrared illumination on the cabin camera for clear interior recording day or night.
Three Channels. Total Coverage.
Where most 3-channel dash cams cut corners with low-resolution rear cameras, the A229 Ultra 3CH delivers true 4K front, true 4K rear, and 1080P IR fisheye cabin coverage — making it one of the most capable rideshare and fleet dash cams on the market. You get full evidence-grade front and rear recording, plus a dedicated interior camera with ultra-wide 210° fisheye coverage that captures the entire cabin in a single frame.
- Front: 4K (3840×2160) with HDR — Sony STARVIS 2 IMX678 (8MP)
- Rear: 4K (3840×2160) with HDR — Sony STARVIS 2 IMX678 (8MP)
- Cabin: 1080P with 210° fisheye lens and infrared illumination — Sony STARVIS 2 sensor for low-light recording
210° Fisheye Cabin Camera — Every Seat in One Frame
Standard cabin cameras typically cover 120°–150°, leaving blind spots in rear seats and side windows. The A229 Ultra’s 210° fisheye cabin camera captures the front seats, rear seats, both side windows, and door panels in a single frame — critical for rideshare drivers, taxi operators, and fleet vehicles that need full interior documentation. No blind spots, no missed evidence.
Infrared Night Vision — See in Total Darkness
The cabin camera uses infrared LEDs to record clearly even when the interior lights are off. Conventional cabin cameras turn into noisy, useless footage at night. The IR camera produces a sharp black-and-white image regardless of cabin lighting — critical for late-night rideshare drivers, taxis on shift work, and any vehicle where interior incidents may happen in low light. The IR illumination is discreet, so passengers see minimal light from the camera — no glare, no distraction, and unobtrusive recording for the driver’s protection.
Sony STARVIS 2 — All Three Channels
All three cameras use Sony STARVIS 2 sensors — the front and rear use the flagship IMX678 (8MP), while the cabin uses a STARVIS 2 sensor optimised for low-light IR recording. This is a meaningful upgrade over typical 3-channel dash cams, which often use cheap, no-name sensors on the cabin or rear cameras to keep costs down. With STARVIS 2 across the board, you get reduced noise, better motion clarity, and significantly improved low-light performance from every angle of your vehicle.
4K Rear — Read Plates Behind You
Most rear cameras top out at 2K or 1080P. The A229 Ultra’s 4K rear means you can read licence plates of vehicles behind you at distances no other 3-channel dash cam can match — essential for capturing detail of tailgaters, hit-and-run incidents, or aggressive drivers in your blind spot. For commercial drivers, this is the difference between “I saw a dark hatchback” and a court-admissible plate identification.
5GHz Wi-Fi & Direct USB-C Transfer
Built-in 5GHz dual-band Wi-Fi lets you preview and download footage to your phone wirelessly via the VIOFO app. For larger 4K transfers, you can also connect your phone directly to the camera with a USB-C cable for fast file transfer — useful when you need to share dash cam footage immediately after an incident.
Quad-Mode GPS
The A229 Ultra features an advanced GPS module that connects to GPS, BEIDOU, GALILEO, and GLONASS satellite networks simultaneously, giving you faster lock and better positioning accuracy than single-system GPS. Speed, time, and route data are embedded directly into your recordings — particularly valuable for rideshare and fleet drivers needing to verify routes, stops, and trip records.
Three Parking Modes (with HK4 Hardwire Kit)
When paired with the optional HK4 hardwire kit, the A229 Ultra 3CH supports three parking modes:
- Auto Event Detection (Buffered): saves footage before and after any impact
- Time-Lapse: records continuously at reduced frame rate to conserve storage and battery
- Low Bitrate Continuous: normal recording at reduced bitrate for full coverage
The HK4 connects to your fuse box for constant power and includes low-voltage cutoff to protect your car battery from being drained while parked.
Smart Voice Control
Hands-free voice commands let you lock footage, take a photo, start or stop recording, or toggle Wi-Fi without taking your hands off the wheel — particularly useful for rideshare drivers needing to discreetly lock footage during a difficult passenger situation.
Built to Last
The A229 Ultra uses a supercapacitor rather than a lithium battery for internal power, delivering stable performance across an extreme operating range (-20°C to +65°C) and significantly longer service life. No battery degradation, no swelling, no replacement cycle. Particularly important for fleet vehicles parked in hot conditions, where lithium batteries fail prematurely — and for NZ summers where windscreens regularly hit 60°C+ in direct sun.
How It Compares
Where the A229 Ultra 3CH sits in the VIOFO 3-channel range:
- vs A229 Pro 3CH: Same front and cabin specs, but the Ultra upgrades the rear from 2K to 4K. Choose Ultra if rear plate evidence at distance matters; choose Pro to save and get the same front and cabin quality.
- vs A229 Plus 3CH: The Plus is 2K + 2K + 1080P at a much lower price; the Ultra upgrades both main channels to 4K. Choose Ultra for premium image quality on both ends; choose Plus for budget-conscious 3-channel coverage.
- vs A329S 3CH: A genuine trade-off. The A329S 3CH adds Wi-Fi 6 (4× faster transfers), external SSD storage support, a 2K fisheye cabin (vs 1080P), and Hybrid Parking Mode. The Ultra keeps the 4K rear that A329S lacks (A329S is 4K + 2K + 2K, Ultra is 4K + 4K + 1080P). Choose Ultra if rear plate evidence is the priority; choose A329S for latest connectivity and maximum cabin coverage.
Ideal For
- Rideshare drivers (Uber, Ola, Didi): protection against false complaints, route disputes, and difficult passenger situations
- Taxi and shuttle operators: evidence for fare disputes, lost property claims, and incident documentation
- Fleet vehicles: driver behaviour monitoring, accident reconstruction, and passenger safety verification
- Driving instructors: review lessons with both road footage and student behaviour captured
- Family vehicles: peace of mind when teenagers or new drivers borrow the car
In the Box
- VIOFO A229 Ultra front camera unit with screen
- 4K rear camera with 6m cable (longer cables available)
- 1080P IR fisheye cabin camera with 1m cable
