Leapmotor B05 Home Chargers & Charging Guide (NZ)

This guide covers both B05 variants — the Life and the Design.
A 7.4kW (32A) single-phase charger suits most NZ homes and charges the B05 overnight, while a 22kW three-phase charger unlocks its 11kW AC rate if your home has three phase. Full charge times, cables and DC info below.

About the Leapmotor B05

Two variants, home charging covered

The Leapmotor B05 is a rear-wheel-drive electric hatch offered in two variants: the Life (56.2kWh, 401km WLTP) and the Design (67.1kWh, 482km WLTP). Both use LFP batteries — so you can charge to 100% every day — and support 11kW AC, meaning a three-phase charger charges them faster if you have 3 phase at home. Most homes are only single phase, so a single-phase charger will still suit most people’s needs and charge the B05 overnight.

Best home chargers for the Leapmotor B05

If you have three-phase at home and want to charge fast, a 22kW charger unlocks the B05’s 11kW AC rate. Otherwise, our single-phase 7.4kW chargers suit most people’s needs and will charge the car overnight — with smart scheduling for night rates and solar diversion to charge from your own roof.

Plug in and go

Tethered wall charger

A fixed cable attached to the charger — the easiest daily experience. Pull in, plug in, done.

One cable for everything

Untethered wall charger

Socket only — you use your own Type 2 cable. Great for sharing a charger between vehicles, or keeping one cable for home and public AC charging.

Solar-aware charger

Our smart chargers support solar diversion — soak up your excess solar export and charge for free during the day.

Three-phase homes / Workplace

22kW chargers (11kW AC rate)

Both B05 variants charge at up to 11kW AC, so a 22kW three-phase charger charges them faster than single-phase.

Your house needs to be pre-wired for three-phase from the street — most NZ houses only have single-phase. Check the switchboard for a main breaker with three switches joined as one, or Phase 1/2/3 labels.

Most NZ homes

7.4kW chargers (single-phase)

Our 7.4kW home chargers suit most people’s needs and will charge the B05 overnight. Choose a charger with the cable attached, or the untethered socket version if you’re buying a three-phase cable.

Load monitoring prevents overloading your mains while charging. Solar diversion varies charging power to match your solar generation. Scheduling via the free app makes the most of off-peak rates. And they’re EECA approved, meeting AS/NZS and WorkSafe standards.

The Leapmotor B05 comes with Vehicle-to-Load as standard on both variants, letting you run tools, appliances or devices straight from the car’s battery — great for camping, tailgating, worksites, or as backup power during an outage. With up to a 67.1kWh battery on board, there’s plenty of capacity to spare on a long day out. You’ll need the Leapmotor V2L adapter — we sell it here.

DC fast charging (CCS2)

The B05 supports up to 168kW DC charging, taking the car from 30% to 80% in around 20 minutes. Charging slows after 80%, so on longer trips you’re better to split charging up. DC chargers have cables attached — no need to bring your own.

Public AC charging (Type 2)

Type 2 public AC chargers are found at supermarkets, malls, hotels and motels — you’ll need to bring your own cable for these.

What cable do I need for public AC charging?

We recommend a Type 2 to Type 2 cable (22kW-rated) in 5m. The B05’s maximum AC charge speed is 11kW, so the 22kW cable ensures you get the maximum speed when AC charging. The majority of free public chargers use a Type 2 socket; some have a cable hard-wired, so a cable isn’t needed 100% of the time.

Leapmotor B05 home charging FAQs (NZ)

What is the best home wall charger for the Leapmotor B05?

For most homes, a 7.4kW (32A) single-phase wall charger — it charges the B05 overnight. If your home has three-phase power, a 22kW charger unlocks the car’s full 11kW AC rate, cutting the Design’s charge time to around 6 hours.

Charging speeds are the same — both cap at 11kW AC and up to 168kW DC. The only difference is battery size: the Life has 56.2kWh (401km) and the Design 67.1kWh (482km), so the Design takes a little longer to fill but goes further.

Check your switchboard: look for a main circuit breaker with three switches joined as one, or labels for Phase 1, Phase 2 and Phase 3. The majority of NZ houses only have a single-phase feed from the street.

Around 9 hours from 10–100% on a 7.4kW single-phase wall charger (Design 67.1kWh), or ~6 hours at the 11kW rate on a three-phase charger. The Life (56.2kWh) is a little quicker at ~7.6 hours single-phase.

A 22kW-rated Type 2 to Type 2 cable in 5m — this ensures you get the B05’s full 11kW AC rate at public chargers.

Up to 168kW via CCS2, charging from 30% to 80% in around 20 minutes. Charging slows after 80%.

Yes — both variants support Vehicle-to-Load as standard, so you can power tools and devices from the car’s battery. We sell the Leapmotor V2L adapter here.
