The VIOFO CPL-600 Filter is a Circular Polarising Lens that fits over the rear, telephoto, or interior camera modules in VIOFO’s RC420, RTC420, RC320, and RTC320 series — eliminating windscreen and rear-window glare from your dash cam recordings.
What Does a CPL Filter Do?
The biggest issue with dash cam footage isn’t usually image quality — it’s reflections. Your dashboard reflects up onto the windscreen, your rear parcel shelf reflects onto the rear window, and on a sunny day those reflections wash out the actual road behind the glass. You end up with footage where you can clearly see your own dashboard, but barely make out the car that just rear-ended you.
A CPL filter solves this by polarising the light entering the lens, filtering out the reflected light while letting through the light from the actual scene. The result is a dramatic improvement in clarity through glass, deeper colour saturation, and footage that actually shows what’s happening outside the vehicle rather than what’s reflecting onto your windows.
Compatible Cameras
The CPL-600 specifically fits these VIOFO rear and telephoto camera modules:
- RC420: 2K HDR rear camera for A329, A329S, and A329T series
- RTC420: 2K HDR telephoto camera for A329T and A329TW series
- RC320: 1080P rear camera for A229 Plus and A229 Pro series
- RTC320: 2K telephoto camera for A229 Plus and A229 Pro series
- A229 Ultra series rear cameras
This is the rear/telephoto camera CPL filter. If you’re after a CPL for the front camera of your A329 or A229 series, you need the CPL-200. For the front camera of an A119M Pro, A119 Mini 2, or A119 V3, you need the CPL-100. For the VS1, you need the CPL-400.
When You’ll Notice the Difference
The CPL-600 makes the biggest difference in three situations:
- Sunny daytime driving: dashboard reflections through the rear windscreen disappear, giving you a clear view of vehicles behind
- Wet roads after rain: water-glare off the road surface is dramatically reduced, particularly for telephoto cameras tracking distant vehicles
- Tinted rear windows: the CPL helps cut through tinting that would otherwise reduce clarity
In overcast or low-light conditions you won’t notice much improvement — CPL filters work by removing reflected light, and there’s less reflection to remove when it’s dim. They don’t reduce image quality at night, just don’t add as much benefit either.
Easy Installation
The CPL-600 attaches magnetically over the rear or telephoto camera lens. To install: slide the filter into place, then rotate it slowly while watching your live preview in the VIOFO app. You’ll see reflections fade in and out as you rotate — stop at the position where reflections are minimised. Takes about 30 seconds.
Ideal For
- Owners of any A329, A329S, A329T, A229 Plus, A229 Pro, or A229 Ultra dash cam who want cleaner rear/telephoto footage
- Anyone whose dash cam regularly films through tinted rear windows
- Drivers who often record in bright daytime conditions where dashboard or parcel-shelf reflections are an issue
- Anyone who’s reviewed their footage after an incident and found the rear camera image less useful than expected because of glare
