MGS6 EV Home Chargers, Cables & Charging Guide (NZ)

The best home charger for the MGS6 EV is a 7kW (32A) wall charger — charging the 77kWh battery from 10–100% in ~11 hours, easily done overnight. The MGS6 has an 11kW onboard AC charger, so a 22kW three-phase charger can cut that to ~7 hours. For public AC charging you’ll need a 22kW-rated Type 2 to Type 2 cable. Full details below.

DC fast charging (CCS2)

The MGS6 supports up to 144kW DC charging via CCS2, with MG quoting 10% to 80% in around 38 minutes. Charging slows after 80%, so on longer trips you’re better to split charging up. DC chargers have cables attached — no need to bring your own.

Public AC charging (Type 2)

Type 2 public chargers are found at supermarkets, malls, hotels and motels — you’ll need to bring your own cable for most of these. The charge port is on the left rear of the vehicle.

What cable do I need for public AC charging?

We recommend a 22kW Type 2 to Type 2 cable in 5m to make use of the MGS6’s faster 11kW AC charging speed. The majority of free public chargers use a Type 2 socket, so this cable lets you use them. Some public chargers have a Type 2 cable hard-wired, so a cable isn’t needed 100% of the time.

V2L (Vehicle to Load)

The MGS6 EV supports V2L, so you can power tools, camping gear and appliances straight from the car. We sell the V2L adapter here.
