Leapmotor B03X Home Charger, Charging Cable & V2L Guide NZ

The Leapmotor B03X will be available in 2 models. The Life 39.8kWh and Design 53kWh. Both use a Type 2 AC / CCS2 DC charge port and have an 11kW onboard AC charger.

For most NZ homes, a 7.4kW single-phase wall charger is the practical choice. If your home has three-phase power, our Tron 22kW three-phase charger lets the B03X use its full 11kW AC charging rate.

Below you can compare B03X home charging times, wall chargers, portable chargers, Type 2 cables, public fast charging and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) options for New Zealand.

Best home charger for the Leapmotor B03X

The right charger depends mainly on whether your home has single-phase or three-phase power.

BEST FOR MOST NZ HOMES

7.4kW single-phase smart wall charger

A 32A single-phase wall charger is the most practical B03X setup for a typical New Zealand home. The car can draw approximately 7.4kW from a suitable single-phase supply, giving an estimated 10–100% charge in around 5.4 hours for the Life or 7.2 hours for the Design.

Choose this option if your house has single-phase power, you normally charge overnight, or you want to keep installation simple.

FASTEST HOME CHARGING

Three-phase charger — up to 11kW to the car

The B03X has an 11kW three-phase onboard charger. If your property has a three-phase supply, our Tron 22kW three-phase wall charger allows the car to use its full AC capability.

Estimated 10–100% charging time is around 3.6 hours for the Life and 4.8 hours for the Design. The wall charger is capable of 22kW, but the B03X itself limits charging to 11kW.

Choose tethered if: you want the easiest everyday setup — park, plug in and charge without getting a separate cable out.
Choose socket / untethered if: you want a tidier charger, already have a Type 2 cable, or want to change cable length later.

Dynamic load balancing can automatically reduce charging current when the rest of the house is using more power. Solar diversion can vary charging to use excess solar generation, and app scheduling lets you target overnight, off-peak or free-power periods.

Have three-phase power?

Use the Tron three-phase wall charger to let the B03X charge at up to 11kW AC.

About the Leapmotor B03X

The Leapmotor B03X is a compact five-seat electric SUV sold as the A10 in China. New Zealand receives two versions: the Life with a 39.8kWh LFP battery and the Design with a larger 53kWh LFP battery.

The Life is rated at 292km WLTP, while the Design increases this to 382km WLTP. Both have front-wheel drive, an 11kW AC onboard charger and a Type 2 / CCS2 charge port.

Vehicle-to-Load support lets the B03X traction battery power normal AC appliances through a compatible V2L adapter connected to the Type 2 charge port.

Portable charger for the Leapmotor B03X

A portable Type 2 charger is useful as a backup, travel charger or lower-cost charging option for the B03X.

From 10–100%, a 10A portable charger takes roughly 17.3 hours for the Life or 23 hours for the Design. A 16A portable charger connected to a correctly installed blue caravan-style socket reduces this to around 10.8 and 14.4 hours.

Choose 10A if: you want maximum flexibility from a standard suitable household socket.
Choose 16A if: you have, or plan to install, a dedicated caravan-style socket and want faster portable charging.

What charging cable does the B03X need?

Vehicle-side plug: Type 2. You will need your own Type 2 to Type 2 cable for socket-only home chargers and many public AC charging stations.

Because the B03X can charge at up to 11kW three-phase, a 22kW three-phase Type 2 cable is the best all-round choice. It allows the car to take its full 11kW rate from a suitable three-phase charger and also works normally on 7.4kW single-phase chargers.

A 7kW single-phase cable will still charge the B03X, but it can prevent you from using the car’s full 11kW capability at a three-phase AC charger.

DC fast chargers have their own CCS2 cable attached, so you do not need to carry a separate DC cable.

Price range: $225.00 through $279.00 inc. GST

Power appliances from your car

Leapmotor B03X V2L adapter

The B03X supports Vehicle-to-Load (V2L), allowing the traction battery to supply normal AC appliances through a compatible adapter connected to the Type 2 charge port. Published specifications list output at approximately 3.3kW.

Use V2L for camping equipment, fridges, lights, battery chargers, tools and other suitable portable appliances. It is a useful backup power source during a power cut and a convenient mobile supply away from mains power.

V2L is intended for appliances connected to the adapter. Do not backfeed a house socket, fixed wiring or switchboard.

Public charging with the Leapmotor B03X

DC fast charging (CCS2): the B03X Life can charge at up to approximately 100kW DC, while the Design increases this to approximately 133kW DC. Leapmotor quotes around 16 minutes from 30–80% under suitable fast-charging conditions. DC fast chargers have their cable attached.

Public AC charging (Type 2): the B03X can accept up to 11kW three-phase AC. A 22kW public AC charger can therefore deliver up to the car’s 11kW limit. For socket-only public chargers you will need your own Type 2 to Type 2 cable.

See our NZ public charging guide for network information, or check PlugShare for charger locations and connector details.

Leapmotor B03X charging FAQs

What type of charger does the Leapmotor B03X use?

The B03X uses a Type 2 connection for AC charging and CCS2 for DC fast charging. Socket-only home chargers and many public AC chargers require a Type 2 to Type 2 cable.

For most New Zealand homes, a 7.4kW 32A single-phase wall charger is the best balance of charging speed and installation practicality. If your property has three-phase power, the B03X can charge faster at up to 11kW AC from a suitable three-phase wall charger.

Yes. The New Zealand B03X Life and Design both have an 11kW onboard AC charger. To reach 11kW you need a suitable three-phase electrical supply and three-phase EV wall charger.

No. A 22kW three-phase wall charger can supply more than the B03X can accept, but the vehicle will limit itself to approximately 11kW AC. A 22kW wall charger is still a good option because it allows the B03X to use its full AC rate and provides extra capacity for a future EV.

From 10–100%, allow approximately 5.4 hours for the 39.8kWh Life and 7.2 hours for the 53kWh Design on a 7.4kW single-phase wall charger. At the full 11kW three-phase rate this drops to approximately 3.6 and 4.8 hours.

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable. Because the B03X supports 11kW three-phase AC charging, we recommend a 22kW three-phase cable so the cable does not limit the car when you use an 11kW or 22kW AC charger.

The NZ Life is rated up to approximately 100kW DC and the Design up to approximately 133kW DC, both through CCS2. Leapmotor quotes around 16 minutes for a 30–80% fast charge under suitable conditions.

Yes. The B03X supports Vehicle-to-Load through a compatible adapter connected to the Type 2 charge port, with published specifications listing approximately 3.3kW output. View our Leapmotor V2L adapter here.

Yes. Suitable appliances can be plugged directly into the V2L adapter within the vehicle’s available output. It can run items such as a fridge, lights, chargers and other portable loads. Do not connect the V2L output directly into fixed house wiring or a switchboard unless a compliant purpose-designed system has been installed.

Installation cost depends on the distance from the switchboard to the parking location, cable route, whether the home is single-phase or three-phase and the available electrical capacity. We can arrange installation quotes through our installer network in many locations nationwide, or you can buy the charger only and use your own electrician. Request advice here.
