The fastest AC charging EV Toyota sells in NZ

The Toyota bZ4X Touring is the wagon-bodied version of the updated bZ4X, with a 74.7kWh battery, 488km of WLTP range and dual-motor all-wheel drive. It carries a larger 550-litre load compartment and can tow up to 1,500kg braked.

Although it supports 22kW three-phase charging, most NZ homes only have single phase, below shows the different charging times using 3 phase or single phase.

DC fast charging

The Touring uses the CCS2 plug and can pull up to 150kW, giving a 10–80% session in around 28 minutes on a compatible rapid charger. DC chargers have their cables attached, so there’s no need to bring your own.

Type 2 AC chargers

AC public chargers are slower, making them ideal when you’re parked in one spot for a while — at a mall, hotel, gym or workplace. Some have a Type 2 cable attached, while others are “bring-your-own-cable” and need your own Type 2 to Type 2 cable. Because the Touring accepts 22kW, a 22kW-rated cable lets it take full advantage of the faster three-phase destination chargers that a lot of EVs can’t use. What cable do I need for public AC charging?

We recommend a 22kW Type 2 to Type 2 cable. A 7kW-rated cable will work, but it limits the Touring to single-phase speeds at three-phase destination chargers. A 5m length suits most public AC bays and parking layouts.

Does the bZ4X Touring support V2L?

Vehicle-to-Load is offered on the bZ4X Touring in other markets with a 220V / 1500W output for running tools and appliances from the car. New Zealand specification can vary by grade, so check with your Toyota dealer — and if your car has it, our V2L adapters are here.
