About the BYD Sealion 6

New Zealand’s first plug-in super PHEV

For charging at home, the Sealion 6 charges at a maximum of 7kW — around four times faster than the portable charger supplied with the vehicle. BYD are currently supplying a non-smart EO charger with the car; to use it you’ll need one of our Type 2 to Type 2 cable (7kW-rated)s to go between the car and the charger.

Public charging with the BYD Sealion 6 (NZ)

DC fast charging (CCS2)

The Sealion 6 supports up to 18kW DC charging, taking the car from 0% to 80% in around one hour. Charging slows after 80%, so on longer trips you’re better to split charging up — or charge at home. DC chargers have cables attached, so there’s no need to bring your own.

Public AC charging (Type 2)

Type 2 public AC chargers are found at supermarkets, malls, hotels and motels — you’ll need to bring your own cable for these.

What cable do I need for public AC charging?

We recommend a Type 2 to Type 2 cable (7kW-rated). The majority of free public chargers use a Type 2 socket, so this cable lets you use them — and it’s also the cable you need for the EO charger supplied with the car. Some public chargers have a Type 2 cable hard-wired, so a cable isn’t needed 100% of the time.
