BYD ATTO 1 Home Chargers & Complete Charging Guide

BYD ATTO 1 home charging

The BYD ATTO 1 is a compact, city-friendly EV that’s big on features — and even better when you’ve got the right home charging setup. In this guide we’ll help you choose the best wall charger for your ATTO 1 in New Zealand, estimate charging times, and pick the correct cable for public AC charging.

In NZ there are two ATTO 1 variants:
Essential (30kWh Blade Battery, 220km WLTP)
Premium (43.2kWh Blade Battery, 310km WLTP).
Both use Type 2 for AC charging (up to 11kW) and CCS2 for DC fast charging, with Premium supporting faster DC rates.

Best Home Chargers for BYD ATTO 1

The BYD ATTO 1 supports Type 2 AC charging up to 11kW.
Most NZ homes are single-phase, so many installs run at ~7kW — still ideal for overnight charging. If you have three-phase, the ATTO 1 can charge up to 11kW on AC

Typical home charging time estimates (approx, allowing for losses):

ATTO 1 Essential (30kWh): ~5 hours from low battery on a 7kW wall charger

ATTO 1 Premium (43.2kWh): ~7 hours from low battery on a 7kW wall charger

Choose your preferred charging solution:
Tethered chargers: Built-in cable for everyday convenience — perfect for a dedicated parking spot
Untethered chargers: Socket-only design — great if you want to use one Type 2 cable across multiple EVs or keep a cable for public AC chargers

Public charging with the BYD ATTO 1

New Zealand has two main public charging types: DC fast chargers (with built-in cables) and AC Type 2 chargers (often socketed, so you bring your own cable).

DC fast charging (CCS2)
The ATTO 1 uses CCS2 for DC fast charging.
Essential supports up to 65kW, and Premium supports up to 85kW. BYD quotes 10–80% in ~30 minutes, and a quick top-up from 30–80% takes ~25 minutes (Essential) or ~22 minutes (Premium) (conditions vary).

Public AC charging (Type 2)
At supermarkets, malls, hotels, and destination chargers you’ll often find a Type 2 socket. You normally need to bring your own cable. PlugShare helps you check what connector is on-site before you arrive.

What cable do I need for public AC charging?

Get a Type 2 to Type 2 cable (22kW-rated).
Even though the ATTO 1 won’t pull 22kW on AC, a 22kW-rated cable is future-proof, safe, and works across most NZ public AC chargers. A 5m length suits most parks.

Charging port location

The ATTO 1 has a front-mounted charging port and uses the same flap for Type 2 (AC) and CCS2 (DC).
