About the BYD ATTO 1

A compact, city-friendly EV that’s easy to charge

The BYD ATTO 1 is a compact EV that’s big on features — and even better with the right home charging setup. In NZ there are two variants:
Essential (30kWh Blade Battery, 220km WLTP) and
Premium (43.2kWh Blade Battery, 310km WLTP).

Both use Type 2 for AC charging (up to 11kW) and CCS2 for DC fast charging, with the Premium supporting faster DC rates. The charging port is front-mounted, with AC and DC behind the same flap.

Best home chargers for the BYD ATTO 1

The ATTO 1 supports Type 2 AC charging up to 11kW. Most NZ homes are single-phase, so many installs run at ~7kW — still ideal for overnight charging (Essential ~5 hrs, Premium ~7 hrs from a low battery). If you have three-phase, the ATTO 1 can charge at the full 11kW on AC.

DC fast charging (CCS2)

The ATTO 1 uses CCS2 for DC fast charging. The Essential supports up to 65kW and the Premium up to 85kW. BYD quotes 10–80% in ~30 minutes, and a quick top-up from 30–80% takes ~25 minutes (Essential) or ~22 minutes (Premium) (conditions vary). DC chargers have cables attached — no need to bring your own.

Public AC charging (Type 2)

At supermarkets, malls, hotels and destination chargers you’ll often find a Type 2 socket — you normally need to bring your own cable.

What cable do I need for public AC charging?

Get a Type 2 to Type 2 cable (22kW-rated). Even where public AC runs slower, a 22kW-rated cable is future-proof, safe, covers the ATTO 1’s 11kW AC rate, and works across most NZ public AC chargers. A 5m length suits most parks.

Charging port location

The ATTO 1 has a front-mounted charging port and uses the same flap for Type 2 (AC) and CCS2 (DC).

BYD ATTO 1 home charging FAQs (NZ)

What is the best home wall charger for the BYD ATTO 1?

A 7kW (32A) wall charger is the ideal setup for most homes — the Essential fully charges in ~4.5 hours and the Premium in ~6 hours. If your home has three-phase power, a three-phase charger unlocks the ATTO 1’s full 11kW AC rate.

No. The ATTO 1 charges happily at ~7kW on a standard single-phase connection, which is what most NZ homes have. Three-phase is optional and simply unlocks the faster 11kW AC rate.

The Essential offers 220km WLTP (30kWh Blade Battery) and the Premium offers 310km WLTP (43.2kWh Blade Battery). Real-world range varies with driving style and conditions.

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable — we recommend a 22kW-rated cable in 5m, which covers the ATTO 1’s 11kW AC rate and is future-proof for your next EV.

Yes — via CCS2, up to 65kW (Essential) or 85kW (Premium). BYD quotes 10–80% in ~30 minutes, with a 30–80% top-up in ~22–25 minutes depending on the variant.

The charging port is front-mounted, with Type 2 (AC) and CCS2 (DC) behind the same flap.
