Workplace EV Chargers for Staff, Fleets and Visitors

Most workplaces need charging for one or more of three groups — employees, company vehicles and visitors. The same commercial charger platform can often support all three groups; the main differences are access, reporting and who pays. Here is how each use case works.

Load Management for Staff Car Parks

Adding several chargers to a workplace raises an obvious question: can the building’s electrical supply handle it? In many cases, load management allows several chargers to operate within the site’s available capacity — although the actual limit must be confirmed from the building’s demand and electrical supply.

Dynamic site load management
An energy meter measures your building’s total demand. As demand rises and falls through the day, the system adjusts the power available to the charger group so your supply limit isn’t exceeded — which often reduces or delays the need for a supply upgrade.

Load management options differ between charger models. Tell us your bay count and switchboard details and we’ll recommend a setup that fits, with the specifications your electrician needs to confirm capacity.

Managing Who Charges, and Who Pays with OCPP

Our compatible OCPP workplace chargers can connect to Kiwi EV, our NZ-operated OCPP charger management service. It handles the day-to-day of workplace charging so you don’t have to.

Issue RFID cards to staff and set the price they pay — free, a subsidised rate, or full cost recovery. Different staff groups can be given different rates.

Open selected chargers to visitors with QR-code pay-as-you-go and set your own pricing. Session limits or pricing rules can encourage bays to turn over, depending on the platform configuration. Approved visitors can be given free access.

Monthly reports show energy use per RFID card, vehicle or charger. Reports can support staff billing, reimbursement, cost allocation and payroll administration, and the energy data can also support reporting on emissions savings.

Fleet drivers charging company vehicles at home? Kiwi EV records energy delivered through the employee’s EV charger separately from general household electricity use, with reporting to support reimbursement of the power they’ve paid for. More on our fleet charging page.

Monitor charge sessions, uptime and energy use from one web dashboard, receive alerts when supported fault events are reported, and perform supported remote actions — such as start, stop or reset commands — depending on the charger and fault condition.

Need Faster Turnaround? DC Charging

AC wall chargers suit most staff car parks, since vehicles are parked for hours. Where a quick top-up matters — visitor bays, pool cars between jobs, or a busy depot — a DC charger fills the gap.

Single CCS2 output with RFID access control. At full output it can deliver around 30kWh of energy per hour — actual charging time depends on the vehicle, starting charge and charging curve.

Entry-level smart 7.4kW wall chargers are the most affordable option, with commercial OCPP and 22kW three-phase units costing more. Current pricing is shown on each product page in our shop. Installation by a registered electrician is additional and depends on your switchboard and cable runs. DC fast chargers are quoted per project.

Both are common. Some businesses offer free charging as a staff benefit; others charge a subsidised or full rate per kWh. With a compatible OCPP charger, the access and pricing model can usually be changed later without replacing the charger.

The right number depends on daily driving, parking duration and whether vehicles can be moved after charging. Where vehicles can rotate through bays, one charger may serve several staff members; where cars remain parked all day, more dedicated bays may be needed. Tell us how your car park is used and we’ll recommend a configuration.
