Public charging with the BYD ATTO 2

New Zealand offers extensive public charging infrastructure with two main types: DC fast charging (built-in cables) and Type 2 AC destination charging (often bring-your-own cable).

DC fast charging (CCS2)
The BYD ATTO 2 uses CCS2 for public fast charging and supports up to 82kW peak. BYD quotes 10–80% in ~38.6 minutes (and ~68 minutes for 0–100% under test conditions). All DC chargers have a fixed cable — no need to carry your own.

Public AC charging (Type 2)
You’ll often find Type 2 socket chargers at supermarkets, malls, hotels and motels. These typically require you to bring your own cable. PlugShare is excellent for checking connector types before you arrive.

What cable do I need for public AC charging?

We recommend a Type 2 to Type 2 cable (7kW-rated). A 5m cable covers most situations.
Even though the ATTO 2 charges at up to ~7kW AC, a 22kW-rated cable is more robust and future-proof if you ever upgrade to an EV that can use higher AC power.
