EVSE Simulator & EV Charger Test Tool
The EVSE Simulator is a professional testing device designed to simulate an electric vehicle (EV), allowing installers and technicians to safely test, commission, and troubleshoot AC EV chargers.
Compatible with:
- Type 2 socket chargers
- Type 2 tethered chargers
- Type 1 tethered chargers (using included Type 1 to Type 2 adapter)
Features
- PE Test – Check for voltage on the protective earth conductor.
- Cable Simulation – Select charging cable ratings from 13A to 63A.
- CP State Simulation – Simulate vehicle connection and charging states.
- CP Error – Simulate a Control Pilot short-to-earth fault.
- PE Error – Simulate interruption of the protective earth conductor.
- Output Indicators – LEDs show charger output voltage on L1, L2 and L3.
- Voltage Test Points – Convenient terminals for voltage measurements.
- NZ Load Socket – Connect a load if required during testing.
How to Use
- Connect the EVSE Simulator to the charger.
- Select 32A on the lower rotary switch and Position A on the upper rotary switch.
- Touch the PE test button. If the LED illuminates, voltage is present on earth.
- Switch to Position B to simulate a connected vehicle that is not requesting charge.
- Switch to Position C to simulate a vehicle ready to charge. Charging should begin
- The L1 LED will illuminate when output voltage is present. L1-L3 will illuminate on three-phase chargers.
- Press PE Error. Charging should stop and the charger should enter a fault state.
- Return to Position A, then B, then C to begin a new charging session.
- Press CP Error. Charging should stop and indicate a fault condition.
RCD / 6mA DC Testing
Our Smart EV Chargers brand with built-in RCD testing can perform the test directly through the charger app.
For other charger brands, a compatible multifunction installation tester is required. The tester connects to the EVSE Simulator to perform RDC-DD (6mA DC residual current) testing.
